TORONTO, ON – Symcor is pleased to announce that Chameli Naraine, President and CEO, has been recognized for the Social Impact Award by the Global Association of Women in Payments. The Social Impact Award celebrates outstanding trailblazers for their courageous leadership, positive impact, resilience, teamwork and mentorship, and integrity and diversity.

A payments leader with three decades of industry expertise, Chameli has spearheaded Symcor’s transformation into a digital-first solutions provider, actively contributing to the future of payments in Canada. Chameli’s leadership has shaped Symcor into a values-based company that drives change, guided by its vision of Connecting for Common Good.

A Strong Advocate for Women in Technology

Chameli’s fiery advocacy for gender equality has transformed Symcor into an organization where females represent more than 50% of the workforce, well above the industry average of 31%. In addition, 60% of Symcor’s executive leadership team are women. Chameli’s ground-breaking practices to close the gender gap for women in the technology sector led Symcor to be recognized as 2020 Company of the Year by Women in Communications & Technology.

In 2018, she founded the EMERGE initiative to help employees on their leadership journey and increase diversity and inclusion at all levels.

Driving Social Change Beyond Business

A strong resolve to influence social change extends to Chameli’s personal life as well. Through the Naraine Global Fund, she impacts countless women with educational and medical programs. In partnership with Trent University, she addresses sustainable farming in developing countries.

Believing that education prompts action, Chameli empowers her teams by hosting industry leaders on topics like climate change and healthcare. Community partnerships are developed to accelerate essential change in these areas.

Chameli’s unique approach has resulted in an organization with increased agility and dexterity, while upholding the service level excellence it is known for. She has actively structured a company wide transformation to support an aggressive growth agenda, all the while building a values-based, results-oriented culture.
